Settlers Ridge, one of two newest and finest communities, is in the growing village of Elk Mound. It’s a wonderful, quiet, and cozy place to live, with quick access to everything you’d need, and a quaint main street and downtown.
BUT – when we at Rooney Property Management mention Elk Mound, we get one question more than any other: Where the heck is Elk Mound, and why would I want to move there?
I’m glad you asked.
Getting to Elk Mound from Eau Claire
Elk Mound is just to the north of northwest Eau Claire, near HWY 29 and Interstate 94. Think, Lake Hallie, but on the west side of the city. From North Crossing, follow Highway 12 just when it turns north, by the AmericInn and Mega Holiday gas station – right before Highway 94. Just a few minutes later, you’re right in the heart of Elk Mound. Highway 12 is effectively the main street for Elk Mound, and Settlers Ridge is on the left as you get into the village.
Did you know? It’s only about 15 minutes or so from Elk Mound to Downtown Eau Claire, and 15-20 minutes from the south side (via Highway 94). Living in Elk Mound is like being just outside of town – the serenity and calm of village living, with quick access to all the great shopping, restaurants, and natural community spaces Eau Claire has to offer. It’s a short trip to the confluence for a fun night out with dinner at the Informalist and entertainment at Pablo Art Center or the Downtown Cinema.
But wait, there’s more!
Get from Elk Mound to Menomonie
Did you know? Elk Mound is also about that same distance – just 15 minutes or so – from Downtown Menomonie. Stay on Highway 12 and head out of the north side of the village, then take a left at the Highway 29 junction (or if you like traveling faster – if a little less direct – hop on 94 near the same point). You’re cruising past Cancun Mexican Grill and the Red Cedar Speedway before you even know it, ready to visit Menomonie Market, take in a show at the Mabel Tainter Theater, or have an evening out at the Log Jam.
It’s so close to Menomonie and Eau Claire, it’s like you’re getting two cities in one – a double metro and fast routes to two vibrant, active downtown communities.
And we’re not even done.
Get from Elk Mound to Chippewa Falls
That’s right – a third downtown just 15-20 minutes from your front door. Take a right at the Highway 29 junction and you’re on your way to Lake Hallie / Chippewa Falls instead. A few minutes on Business 53 North, and you’re ready to get some sweet treats at the Chippewa Candy Shop, discover hidden treasures at The Collective Charm, or enjoy some night life at the Sheely House Saloon or the Wissota Chophouse.
Three downtowns, all with easy access direct from your quiet (yet upscale!) village apartment home.
Or, just stay at home in Elk Mound

Just past that, discover Elk Mound Scenic County Park and the Elk Mound Hill Castle, a great place to spend an afternoon in nature.
